Woman Attempting To K!ll Cockroach Sets House Ablaze K!lling Neighbour

A female resident in South Korea is confronting criminal accusations after she reportedly ignited her apartment complex in an attempt to eliminate a cockroach using a makeshift flamethrower, resulting in the demise of her neighbor.

As detailed by People, the news outlet that covered the event, authorities in Osan, located approximately 30 miles south of Seoul, announced they have obtained an arrest warrant for the woman, who is in her 20s, labeling her as “a flight risk.”

The blaze allegedly erupted around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 20, following the woman’s supposed use of “a lighter and a flammable spray” to incinerate a cockroach within her residence.

Referencing South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, officials plan to indict the woman for inadvertently igniting a fire and causing de@th by negligence.

The BBC, which first covered the incident on Tuesday, Oct. 21, cited local police stating that the woman confessed she “tried to torch the cockroach with a lighter and a flammable spray,” further noting that “she had used the method before.”

According to investigators, the flames rapidly engulfed the structure, compelling multiple occupants to try fleeing via windows.

Yonhap reported that the victim was a Chinese national in her 30s who had recently delivered her first child just two months prior.

As smoke inundated her fifth-floor unit, she and her spouse allegedly opened a window and shouted for assistance, handing their infant to a resident in the nearby building.

“The woman’s husband managed to leap across to the neighbouring building, but when the new mother tried to do the same, she fell five stories and sustained serious injuries,” People reported. She was rushed to the hospital but ultimately di£d.

The BBC likewise verified that “one of the woman’s neighbours di£d after falling to the ground in a failed attempt to escape through a window,” while eight additional residents endured minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.

Osan police indicated that the probe continues and that the matter will be handed over to local prosecutors upon conclusion.
