Woman Drugs Nursing Mother, Steals 2-Month-Old Baby In Delta

Police officers in Delta State have apprehended a woman accused of sedating the mother of a two-month-old baby boy with spiked juice and absconding with the infant.

This was disclosed to journalists by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, during a press conference at the command’s headquarters in Asaba, the state capital, on Thursday, May 15.

Abaniwonda explained that the child’s mother had fallen asleep after consuming juice laced with a sedative while traveling for business with the suspect from Koko to Warri.

“On 7/4/2025 at about 1000 hours, the DPO of Ekpan Police Station received a complaint that a woman (name withheld), aged 20, had embarked on a business trip on 16 February 2025 with one Mrs. Joy from Koko to Warri, Delta,” Abaniwonda said.

The police commissioner revealed that during the journey, Mrs. Joy allegedly drugged the child’s mother with the juice, causing her to lose consciousness, and then fled with the two-month-old baby boy.

Abaniwonda noted that the DPO of Ekpan Police Station, acting on the complaint, initiated an intelligence-driven investigation, tracked down, and arrested the 49-year-old suspect.

“After discreet interrogation, the suspect confessed that she was indeed the one who stole the baby. The baby, who is now five months old, has been rescued and handed over to his parents. The suspect is in custody, and investigation is ongoing,” he said.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
