Suspected gunmen killed a man in Ekiti State on Friday evening, his wife and daughter were kidnapped and carried to an unknown location by the masked assailants.

The victim, whose names have not yet been established, was claimed to be traveling in a Lexus 330 Sports Utility Car (SUV) accompanied by his wife and daughter along the Ewu-Ayetoro-Ekiti route in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State when the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.

The police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, denied reports that there were five people in the vehicle, stating that there were just three people in the vehicle.

According to reports, the passengers, who were claimed to have been guests at an event in the area, were on their way back to their homes when they were ambushed by a group of bandits.

An informant said, “The man and the family were returning to their base when they were waylaid. The victim was shot in the head and chest.

“They didn’t take the vehicle, they only left the corpse of the man, and other people in the vehicle were taken away.

“There was a pool of blood inside the Jeep and this made people suspect that those who did the work were kidnappers”.

Sunday Abutu, the Police PRO, stated that the sympathizers were powerless to save the victim, who died on the scene.

He said, “The report we got was that the family was traveling along that root and suddenly some suspected gunmen fired gunshots at them, killing the husband and took away the wife and their daughter.

“The police have mobilized to the spot and combing the surrounding forests with other agencies like the Amotekun Corps, Nigeria n Security, and Civil Defence Corps, local hunters and vigilante group, he added.

“Killing and kidnapping are two evils all of us as patriotic citizens must join hands with security agencies to defeat.

“Those perpetrating these didn’t mean well for our country and we must all perceive them as enemies of this nation.”
