At Least 4 Injured in Texas High School Shooting, Police Say

Four people were injured in Wednesday’s shooting at a high school in Arlington, Texas, and three were taken to hospital, officials said.

Arlington Police Department Assistant Chief Kevin Colby said police were called to Timberview High School at around 9:15 a.m. local time, following reports of shots fired after a fight on the second floor of the building.

He said three people who were injured were taken to the hospital. The fourth suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. He said three of the men were students and one was an older man, adding that he believed two of the victims had gunshot wounds.

He said that more than two-three bullets were fired. Police identified 18-year-old student Timothy George Simpkins as a “person of interest” in the incident and said he may have been driving a silver Dodge Charger. Authorities suspect the shooting happened when a student “got into a fight and drew a weapon,” Colby said.

“This is not a random act of violence. This is not someone attacking our schools,” Colby said.

The chief was not aware of what type of gun was used or how it was brought into the building.

The Mansfield Independent School District said the school was “on lockdown as the situation unfolded,” but that the “all clear” has been given.

“The reunification process has been strengthened for Timberview High School and Early College High School families,” the district said in a statement. Statement.

One of the wounded was “an older man who may have been a teacher,” Colby said. He said a pregnant woman collapsed during the incident and was treated. The woman did not go to the hospital, he said.

Timberview High School has over 1,800 students.

The incident is the latest shooting at a school since the start of the school year. Many US schools, which finally returned to in-person after more than a year of distance learning, have closed in recent weeks due to panic, firing between students, staff and parents.
