Bill Clinton Is Hospitalized For Infection

Former United States President; Bill Clinton has been hospitalized in Orange County with an infection that is not linked to the COVID-19.

Bill Clinton was hospitalized after a urinary infection developed into sepsis, an aide said on Thursday. The aide said Mr. Clinton’s sepsis was not considered acute.

He is recovering, according to a spokesman and two of his physicians.

“He is on the mend, in good spirits, and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care,” said spokesman Angel Ureña.

Mr. Clinton’s doctors, Dr. Alpesh Amin and Dr. Lisa Bardack said a statement That the former president was hospitalized for “close monitoring” and received IV antibiotics and fluids. He said that after two days of treatment, his white-blood-cell count was declining and he was “responding well to antibiotics.” He said Clinton’s medical team in California was in touch with his doctors in New York, including his cardiologist.

“He remains in the hospital under constant monitoring,” Dr. Amin and Burdack said. “We hope he goes home soon.”

Mr. Clinton was in California for an event related to his foundation. He had started planning a more robust itinerary after Covid-related restrictions were eased.

Sepsis, a life-threatening reaction to infection, is a common cause of hospital deaths. About 1.7 million Americans develop sepsis in a typical year and about 270,000 Americans die as a result of sepsis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Sepsis, or the infection it causes, begins outside the hospital in about 87 percent of cases.

According to the CDC, the infections that lead to sepsis often begin in the lungs, urinary tract, skin, or gastrointestinal tract; without prompt treatment, it can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.

In 2010, Clinton was taken to a New York hospital after experiencing chest pain and later had a heart procedure. Doctors put two stents in his original coronary artery.

In 2004, Mr. Clinton, who has a family history of heart disease, had quadruple coronary bypass surgery in a New York hospital. The open-heart procedure, which took four hours, prompted chest pain and shortness of breath three days after tests revealed he had life-threatening heart disease.

Mr. Clinton also has a history of skin cancer, cysts, allergies, and some hearing problems. Medical tests near the end of his presidency in January 2001 showed high levels of cholesterol and blood pressure, often with nothing but medical problems associated with aging.

We wish him a quick recovery.
