Billboard Names WizKid’s Manager, Jada Pollock, Executive Of The Week

Among those honored this week by Billboard is Jada Pollock, manager of Grammy-winning Afrobeats singer WizKid, who was awarded Executive of the Week.

The announcement was made on Friday via the Billboard Hip-hop Twitter page, and it was made in recognition of Pollock’s contributions to WizKid’s classic song Essence.

According to the tweet: “With the chart-topping success of Wizkid’s ‘Essence’, his manager Jada Pollock earns the title of Billboard’s Executive of the Week.”

Essence, which features Tems and is currently at number one on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, has proven to be the most financially successful track from WizKid’s fourth studio album, “Made in Lagos.” Following the sale of 500,000 units in the United States, Essence was awarded Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America earlier in the month.

“The album is truly a reflection of WizKid’s growth as both an artist and an individual”, Pollock said of the album’s accomplishment.

“Made in Lagos is purely good music. It’s real and people are genuinely gravitating towards it, irrespective of space and time. There’s something in the album for everyone and every mood,” she continued.

Upon being questioned about the actions that were made to allow Essence to attain chart success, she stated that the “anticipation has grown organically with time; I wouldn’t say there were any specific plays or decisions that were made to achieve that.”

She did, however, reveal that “Wizkid’s always wanted to do a video for the record before it started to grow. We pushed to make it happen and watched the record performance drive further on the Hot 100 chart each week, and today we have a No. 1 song on urban radio in the U.S.”

Pollock went on to give credit also to the song’s producers, LegenduryBeatz and P2J, for their contributions to the song’s overall “feel good” vibe.

The manager said, “This song, in particular, has a sound that makes you feel so good whenever you hear it. LegenduryBeatz and P2J, the producers of the record, did a great job blending the drums from Afroswing with the ’90s R&B melodies.”
