Bullying: FG Suspends 13 FGC Enugu Students

The Federal Government has suspended 13 students from the Federal Government College in Enugu State for suspected bullying at school.

A short video clip circulating on social media showed some pupils physically assaulting another student at the school hostel.

The unsettling act was quickly condemned by both the Enugu State Government and members of the public.

Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has ordered that the students be suspended for six weeks.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Education, Folashade Boriowo, asked the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) to work with security services to conduct an extensive investigation.

Alausa reiterated the ministry’s steadfast dedication to preserving a secure and comfortable learning environment in all of the nation’s federal schools.

He claims that the bullying event at the FUC in Enugu was the subject of a recent report that the Federal Ministry of Education received. The report expressed serious issues regarding discipline and safety in the school setting.

“The findings of the ministry, the incident involved the gang assault of an SS1 student (a day student) by a group of students on November 7,” the reports read.

”The incident came to light showing the circulation of a disturbing video on social media platforms

”In response, the Federal Ministry of Education established a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter.

”Based on the findings, all 13 students involved have been placed on a six-week suspension pending the report of the investigative committee.”

The minister also asked the School Based Management Committee to work with security authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, including any potential affiliations with external parties.

He also stated that immediate actions had been taken to improve security at the College, including engaging law enforcement agents and examining existing safety practices.

”Additionally, counseling and rehabilitation support will be provided to address all forms of problems while promoting their reintegration into a positive school environment,” he said.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
