MOTHERHOOD: MY EXPERIENCE!!! PARENTING: DEPRESSION IN CHILDREN – PART 5

Bullying often leads to depression when not handled on time and properly. The relational type of bullying could be very harmful to the victim. It can be going on for a very long time without Parents/guidance or teachers noticing it. Due to this not being easily noticed, reporting the incident may be seen as a false allegation against the bully. This was the state I was in when my son told me about what he was going through in school. I was confused about how to report this without making it look like a false allegation against the class assistant.

Also, from his explanation, I realized that his assistant is someone that wants to dominate anywhere they are. I knew I had to do something about it. His looks also denote something; “Mummy, I trust you will help me”.

In that state of confusion, what came to my mind was to hold his hands and pray about the situation. I strongly believe that came from the Helper, the Holy Spirit. I held his hands and prayed; I prayed for strength for him, courage, restoration of confidence, and that the Lord would handle the issue Himself. A day after the prayer, he told me he was bolder and more confident. He was no longer feeling that she was smarter and more active than him. Also, he said he was able to carry out some of his duties as the class captain, and the teachers have started to recognize him as the class captain and have him carry out duties.

A week after the prayer, he came home and said, “mummy I feel for my assistant”, I asked him why? He replied, “the previous day at school, the teachers had a meeting after the launch break. The school authority shared upper-class pupils, (Basic 5 & 6) in twos into lower classes to ensure decorum in the class. His assistant was asked to take charge of Basic 1 pupils. In the process, she slapped one of the Basic 1 pupils. The pupil’s mom reported the incident, as her action caused marks on the boy’s chick and a fever. Her classmates informed the school authority that she has been very domineering to them as well. The school Authority gave her 3 days of suspension. With all these, the class teacher removed her as the class assistant captain and assigned the role to someone else.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for healing my son and helping us to handle this issue properly.

This incident made me realize that our parenting styles affect our children’s growth, development, and behavior.

Join me in my next episode where I will be sharing with you the different parenting styles and their impacts on our children’s behavior
