It’s no longer news that the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV; Mr. Usifo Ataga is dead. He was reportedly murdered by one Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, an innocent-looking, soft-spoken 21-year-old female undergraduate of the University of Lagos. Mind you, looks can be very deceptive.
Chidinma, who claimed to be a 300-level student in the Department of Mass Communication, confessed to stabbing Ataga to death. A fake drivers’ license and Nigerian International passport, amongst other items were recovered from her upon her arrest by the Lagos State Police Command.
The body of late Usifo Ataga was reportedly found inside the short-let apartment on 19 Adewale Oshin Street in Lekki phase 1 with multiple wounds all over his body. This means Chidinma alone couldn’t have carried out such an act. Some other persons are involved which maybe Chidinma knows about. There have always been murderers from time immemorial, don’t ever let looks or introversion deceive you as Chidinma colleagues say she is an introvert.
According to the elder brother of the late deceased Ataga, he said while they checked his dead body at the morgue, Ataga’s “hands were bound tightly and the marks were still all over his wrists, accompanied with evidence of torture and assault. No one in the entire building heard his screams because he was gagged”.
No one seems to know what Chidinma’s motives are but in an interview with DailyTrust, Chidinma said financial pressure occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 made her hook up with some female students who took her to wild parties, one of which she met the late Usifo Ataga.
“It was at one of those parties that I met Ataga. He picked interest in me because of the course I am reading. We dated for about six months before I started noticing his strange behaviour. He gave me roofies (a street name for Rohypnol) before sex. I never meant to kill him. I was not in the mood but he wanted sex. I told him so and we had roofies, after which he was all over me. He forced his way into me, even though it was not the first time we had sex. I felt he was using me to satisfy his sex urge as he never fulfilled all he promised to do for me” she said:
From all indications, Ataga’s hands were tied and his mouth was covered and he was tortured. This was an overkill to make sure he was dead. How else could he have released his ATM PIN to a girl he just met? How? Chidinma alone would not have been able to subdue him, let alone killing him.
My opinion is that this is a clear case of organized murder. Some other persons or Ataga’s acquaintances are involved in his death and the Police need to work hard to unravel this.
Remember that it was reported that Michael Ataga was an amateur boxer, he would have fought for his life even in a drunken or drug-induced stupor and caused some damage to Chidinma if the story she said was plausible. But in this case, there was no struggle because Chidinma has no bruises on her body.
Or maybe Ataga must have been excessively drugged!
It may interest you to know that this same Chidinma, 3 to 4 years ago, was arrested for blackmailing a married man and used an innocent security man’s bank account to collect the money. She must have been 17-18yrs old then.

In a nutshell, this incident was neither an accident nor a drug-fuelled sexcapade gone wrong! No, No.
The crime is 100% premeditated. It was a premeditated, well-set-up conspiracy to murder. I still insist that one person no matter how strong could not have tied and gagged Ataga and then carried out all that was done, talkless of a 21yrs old lady.
So now, if one person could not have done this and security claims only a delivery guy came in to see them. Then the question to be answered is how exactly did “unknown persons now at large” gain access to the building and room?
This is where the lodging records become important. The police have to profile each lodger/visitor to that building over the past week. Maybe someone/ people may have lodged next door waiting for a signal to move in after all Chidinma looked for the apartment herself while late Usifo paid for it.
Who ordered the drug? What was the quantity of drugs taken and how come she wasn’t drunk?
During her confession, Chidinma had alleged that she was introduced to the victim via a mutual friend. Who is this unnamed mutual friend?
She should name her conspirators.
Hhmmm….What a sad way to exit the world. The shame and pain the family is going through is worst than the death of this man.
We implore the Nigerian police to unravel this mystery and bring the culprits to book.
