Dana Air faces backlash over delayed refunds after suspension

Since the operations suspension of Dana Air, passengers have expressed growing frustration over the airline’s delay in ticket refunds.

The suspension, which occurred after a runway overshoot incident, led Dana Air to halt flights, leaving many customers in the lurch.

The PUNCH recalls that on April 25, following the runway overshoot by Dana Air, they announced that they were processing refunds for flights affected by the suspension of its operations.

In a statement, the airline management asked for patience from customers and urged them to provide their booking details and bank account numbers to facilitate refunds.

However, several customers have taken to social media to express their dismay at the slow pace of refunds and the lack of communication from the airline.

Speaking with our correspondent, a customer who purchased a ticket two days before the suspension, Israel Adebode, stated, “My flight was supposed to be for last week Monday. Even after the ban, the website was still working until three days later; it stopped working and I have to be refunded.”

Others have reported being blocked by the airline on social media for requesting refunds. A tweep with the handle @Ajewole Theophilus, who claimed to be an affected passenger, tweeted, “Amazingly, @danaairline blocked me and other users on Twitter for requesting the refund of our money. So we can’t reach them again.”

The alleged airline’s behaviour on social media has drawn criticism, with several customers pointing out that Dana Air deactivated its account on X (formerly Twitter) after numerous calls for refunds.

A user with the handle @Papi_Xchulo wrote, “Are you aware that Dana Air has deactivated their @DanaAir account on X? People called them out for refunds, including myself, without any response from them. But they quickly deactivated their account. How are we going to get our refunds, please?”

Another Twitter user who spoke with the PUNCH, George Aremu, shared a similar experience that happened to his wife.

“So it happened to my wife and her colleagues. They booked a flight from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos with Dana. The exam was cancelled. So they asked for a refund, and Dana said they would pay just one.”

The delayed refunds have disrupted travel plans and caused significant inconvenience for customers another Twitter user who laid his complaint with the Twitter handle @SaibrousFarms, a business impacted by the suspension, tweeted, “We have not been refunded our money back due to the last suspension of DanaAir, which caused a setback to our logistics/itinerary.”

Speaking with our correspondent, he added, “What I’m interested in is for my hard-earned money to be refunded.”

A disgruntled user with the X handle @iam__leonpatriq also shared his frustration on X, stating, “Since the suspension of Dana Air, it’s been weeks and they’ve not made efforts for refunds, daily mail reminders falling on deaf ears! Is this how our money will go?”
