Gov Bello Hails President Buhari For Deploying Troops In Zamfara Over Security Crisis

Governor Bello Mohammed has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the dispatch of rapid response troops to Zamfara State to combat the return of armed banditry.

Major General Uwem Bassey, General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, and Commander Joint Task Force, North West Operation Hadarin Daji, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Gusau, received the praise on Thursday.

Governor Bello extended his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for dispatching 100 special troops to Zamfara State to fight bandits in the forests, saying that the move would put a stop to all kinds of crime in the state.

He believes this shows the president is concerned about what is going on in the state, particularly the recent increase of kidnappings and deaths of innocent people in various areas.

Governor Bello stated that his administration will continue to provide the Nigerian Army and all security agencies in the state with all required logistical and support to achieve victory in the fight against criminality.

Because of Major General Bassey’s enormous expertise and talent on many fighting fronts, the Governor regarded his posting as a blessing to the northwest zone.

Matawalle said he had been hoping for a talented and hardworking Army officer to be posted to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto, who would stand and secure the zone effectively, putting an end to the ongoing armed banditry.

He stated “ that his administration has enlisted the help of Islamic scholars and Imams to pray diligently for the establishment of peace and calm in the state and throughout the North.

Governor Matawalle encouraged the Nigerian Army’s intelligence unit, especially the operation Hadarin Daji, to strengthen its attempts in tracing and tracking spies who are assisting banditry in the zone, as well as a concerted working collaboration between all security agencies to attain success on the war fronts.

To ensure long-term peace, the Governor also urged for effective collaboration between local vigilante groups, the military, and other security organizations.

Major General Uwem Bassey said they were visiting the Governor’s House to brief him of his appointment as the new GOC of the Nigerian Army’s 8th Division in Sokoto.

He stated that the Division is in charge of the states of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Katsina and that the operation Hadarin Daji is being carried out properly throughout the zone, dealing with all criminal groups.

Major General Uwem Bassey informed the Governor that his goal is to professionally safeguard the area from any types of illegal activity, particularly the high rate of kidnapping and killing of innocent people, while also emphasizing that bandits and other criminal elements will continue to be dealt with in the zone.

He praised the Governor’s efforts in the area of security and promised that he would continue to assist the government in containing insecurity throughout the state.
