Gunmen Open Fire In Court Room, Kills ‘Most Wanted Gangster In Delhi’

Two gunmen dressed as lawyers opened fired inside Delhi’s Rohini at a district court in India’s national capital Delhi on Friday.

At least three people were killed and one injured in the shootout by two gunmen. The attack is believed to have targeted a court hearing involving a man described by local media as Delhi’s most wanted gangster; Jitendra Gogi.

Officials said the two gunmen disguised as lawyers and entered the court in search of Gogi, who was arrested by the Delhi Police in March 2020 on charges of attempt to murder, extortion, illegal arms possession, carjacking, and land grabbing.

Gogi was among those shot in the court, local media quoted officials as saying that he received four bullets and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

According to police officials, when Gogi was brought for a legal hearing, the two gunmen were already waiting inside the court. Minutes later, the two “removed the pistol and opened fire”, a senior police officer said. Indian Express.

The dramatic video of the shooting moment was broadcast by ANI, an Indian news agency. Footage shot from the lobby of the court shows officers running in a panic as loud gunshots are fired.

Jitender Gogi is a history-sheeter who was arrested in 2016 but managed to flee police custody within three months.

Reports said that the two gangs had been at a turf war for years and the clashes have been going on even though Jitender Gogi was behind the bars these months. Both the gangs have been running extortion rackets for years in Alipur and Sonipat and a gang war ending in such bloodshed is not the first for them. In the last six years, over 10 members of the two gangs have been killed, reports said.

The shooting is likely to be the latest incident in the long-running rivalry between two gangs involved in an extortion racket in neighboring parts of Delhi. The report said at least 10 members of the two gangs have been killed in the past six years and several members have faced deadly attacks.
