‘I Wasn’t Part of Kidney Donor Search,’ – Ekweremadu’s Wife Claims In Court

The wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Beatrice Ekweremadu, has denied being involved in the effort to find an organ donor for their sick daughter Sonia.

Beatrice and her husband were both detained in the UK last year for allegedly smuggling a young guy into the nation for the purpose of removing his kidneys. On Monday at the Old Bailey in London, where she is on trial with her husband, daughter, and one doctor, Obinna Obeta, she refuted the accusation.

It is said that the young guy misrepresented himself as Sonia’s cousin in an unsuccessful attempt to convince medical professionals to perform a $80,000 private surgery at the Royal Free Hospital.

Regarding the family’s money, Beatrice testified before the court that her husband took care of the house and that she solely performed domestic responsibilities, such as paying visits to their kids’ schools in the UK every few weeks.

Her husband described how they came to learn that their daughter Sonia had kidney issues when she became ill in 2919 and received a diagnosis there.

Jurors were informed that Sonia traveled back to London to visit doctors at the Cromwell Hospital and the Royal Free.

Anu Mohindru KC, the defense attorney, is quoted by the BBC as saying, “There are text messages from your husband keeping you informed of what was happening. Is that something he would do?”

The defendant replied: “Yes. He tells me what he thinks I need to know.”

The attorney then asked Ekweremadu if he had told his brother Diwe, who had a medical background, about their conversations.

Beatrice informed the jury that she thought of Diwe Ekweremadu as the family physician but did not inquire more.

Ekweremadu’s daughter

Obeta, a former classmate of Diwe’s, allegedly promised to assist the family.

Mrs. Ekweremadu was asked by Mohindru if she had any involvement in selecting candidates.

The Ekweremadus, who reside in Willesden Green in North-West London, and Obeta, who hails from Southwark in South London, both reject the accusations leveled against them, and the trial is still ongoing.
