Two 6-year-old Herders Arrested For Open Grazing Trespass And Threatening Victim With A Cutlass

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has detained two minor herders for disobeying the government’s directive on open grazing in the state.

After herding their cows into her farm in Kajola, Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo State, the six-year-old herders were arrested for harassing a septuagenarian.

The little shepherds were identified as twins Audu Ibrahim and Musa Ibrahim, according to reports threatened Mr.s Victoria Ajayi, a 70-year-old farmer, with a cutlass.

She was inside her home, according to the septuagenarian, when her grandson told her that cows had overrun their farmland.

“As I was cautioning the children to move the cows out of my farm, one of them brought out a cutlass and pointed it to my face. It was then that I knew I was in big trouble.

“I quickly called my grandson and went inside and shut my door. They were there for hours as I watched the cows eat my vegetables and destroy my pepper and also watched how they dug my heaps of yams with their legs and ate my long-awaited ready-to-be harvested yams.

“I quickly reached for my drugs because I have been managing high blood pressure for some time. I quickly took my boy and went out through the back door where they could not see me because I never knew their next move as we were alone in the house.”

When she feared danger, she fled the house through the back door and went to Amotekun’s office to report the occurrence, following which some corps agents followed her and detained the two young herders.

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, the twins’ 52-year-old father from Kastina State, who expressed regret for their actions, claimed he made a mistake by allowing the boys to graze on their own.

“This is a mistake for me. I have been living in Akure for over 30 years without having trouble with anyone.”

The youngsters were getting training to become herders, he said, adding that he was not there at the time of the incident.

Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state Commander of Amotekun, said that after receiving a distress call from the victim, the corps’ response team jumped into action and detained the perpetrators.

He stated that the children would be taken to juvenile court to face the consequences of their actions.
