Herdsmen: Jama’atu Nasril Islam Denounces Plateau Killings

The Plateau State chapter of the Jama’atu Nasril lslam (JNI) has denounced recent killings in the state’s Bassa, Jo’s South, and Riyom local government areas, saying the crimes are against Islamic teaching.

In a statement, the State JNI Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sani Mudi, also decried the invasion of Miago Chiefdom, which killed and injured many people, burned down houses, and destroyed crops in farms.

The JNI explained the development as concerning, claiming that it poses a severe threat to the state government’s efforts to maintain calm.

He asked the impacted communities to put aside their swords and engage in discussion to achieve long-term peace and harmony in the state.

The JNI in the statement said, “JNI in Plateau under the leadership of Alhaji Muhammad Haruna, the Emir of Wase, wishes to express its deep concern over the recurring violence in Bassa, Jos South, Riyom and the attempt by some miscreants to reignite conflict in Jos North Local Government Area through unprovoked attacks on innocent citizens and destruction of properties.”

The state government’s peace-building measures, which have so far yielded excellent results, are seriously threatened by the attacks, according to the statement.

The JNI further urged that to achieve long-term peace in these sections of the state, stakeholders must closely examine the core issues and address them.

The JNI also believes that a full examination of the complexities of the disputes in Bassa and Riyom has also sparked in some parts of Jos South, and has urged for coordinated efforts to promote peaceful coexistence.

It was observed that the regrettable incidence of violent attacks on innocent people and their property in the evening, at the Gada biyu neighborhood of Jos North, is unacceptable and is strongly condemned.

The group applauded Gov. Simon Lalong and the security services for their efforts in preventing the violent disputes from spreading to other sections of the state.

It thus asked the governor not to be intimidated by the events and to continue focused on bringing democratic dividends to the people, as well as urging security services to apprehend the perpetrators of this terrible murder and their collaborators and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.

It hoped that this would serve as a warning to potential perpetrators of violence and strife in the state.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
