N52 Million Naira Awarded To Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Against Police, Army

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of a Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, has awarded the sum of N52 million to Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lead counsel for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, exactly two years after security operatives invaded his house during the burial of his brother in Oraifite.

As a result of the blatant breach of his fundamental rights by security agents, Justice Dimgba ordered N50 million in damages against the Police, Army, and other security agencies.

In addition, the Court awarded N2 million in costs for the ongoing action against the Police and Army, totaling N52 million.

In a statement released on Friday headlined “Justice Delayed Is Not Always Justice Denied,” Ejiofor stated his home was invaded on December 2, 2019, during the burial of his late elder brother, Rev. Chukwukpelum Louis Ejiofor, by a team of security operatives made up of Nigerian Police and Army.

Four people were slain in his complex, according to him, and all of the properties within his ancestral home, including his brothers’ residences and neighboring houses, were set on fire.

Ejiofor said, “Justice Dimgba of Court No 2, Federal High Court Awka Judicial Division awarded me the sum of N50 million against the Police and Army and N2 million as cost for the action still against the Police and Army, cumulatively N52 million.

“I instituted a suit for the enforcement of my fundamental rights grossly violated by the said Security agents. The Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State on Thursday, December 2 2021 delivered a well-considered judgment in my favour.

“The judgment may have been delayed, but the fact that the Court found that my rights were grossly infringed upon and condemnable, will go a long way to assuage the pains and trauma. I have been passing through over the past two years, on account of that terrible and heart-wrenching experience.”
