MOST HOLY MOTHER – OUR SORROWFUL QUEEN
Today, on the 15th of September, we join the Church in celebrating the glorious Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows! This special day honors her profound role in the epic story of salvation as she stood by, heart-wrenching and steadfast, watching her only Son, our Lord, face the agony of the cross. We recognize her not just as a mother, but as the Queen of Heaven and Earth!
Imagine this powerful scene: Mary, the simple maiden of Nazareth, at the very first throne of her kingship—right at the foot of the Cross! Picture her there, not adorned in luxurious silk, but wearing the blood-stained garments of a mother who has witnessed unimaginable sorrow. Her tear-streaked face tells the story of love, anguish, and the ultimate sacrifice as she cradles the broken, crucified body of Jesus, our beloved Lord.
It’s in this heartbreaking moment that Mary rises to become our Queen! Here she sits in the dust of Calvary, holding the weight of the world—and us—within her embrace. With her calloused and tender hand, she reaches out to us, inviting us into her arms. She understands our deepest sorrows; she feels our pain, not merely as a glorious queen in Heaven, but as a devoted mother who walks with us through the trials of our daily lives.
Mary, our Sorrowful Mother, doesn’t just stand by; she holds us close, guiding us gently to her Son, Jesus, who endured the Crucifixion. In sharing the Passion of Christ at Calvary, she became our compassionate Queen and Mother of Sorrows. Let’s celebrate and honor this remarkable gift from God as we reflect on the incredible love and strength of Our Lady of Sorrows on this meaningful feast!
