Peter Obi denies endorsing Abure’s Labour Party NWC

The candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has distanced himself from reports that he has endorsed the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Recall that on May 21, 2024, Obi, in the company of a crowd of supporters paid a visit to the National Chairman, Julius Abure, and other national officers at the headquarters of LP in Utako.

Reports emerged that during the visit, Obi endorsed the newly elected National Working Committee of Labour Party led by Abure, and urged aggrieved members to put the survival of Nigerians and Nigeria first above all other interests.

However, on Wednesday, Obi debunked endorsing  LP’s National Chairman, Comrade Julius Abure and the NWC.

Obi in a statement issued signed by his Chief Spokesman, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, his visit to the party’s National Headquarters and his meeting with Abure, on Tuesday, was part of efforts to reconcile feuding leaders.

According to the Spokesman, his principal paid similar visits to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (Political Arm) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Yunusa said, “Obi had repeatedly maintained that his interest was to carry everybody along into one strong family and not to endorse anyone’s interest.

“The visit was part of the consultations Obi has been embarking on in search of peace in the party.

“In line with this, he also met with the political arm of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC Trade Union Congress, and TUC, on Wednesday in continuation of his search for peace in the party.

“At his meeting with the workers’ union, the leadership of the NLC/TUC political commission led by comrade Titus Amba and comrade Chris Uyot was also disposed to peace in the party.

“At the meeting, he clearly made the point that the party needed to reconcile all various positions in a peaceful atmosphere to have a united house that should be all-inclusive.

“He thanked the leadership of the political commission for their understanding and expressed the hope for a good working relationship very shortly.

“The LP standard bearer also plans to meet with other critical stakeholders like the Obidients to have an all-inclusive political family with a common dream of rescuing Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan has said that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the last election, Peter Obi has a very slim chance of clinching the presidential seat in 2027.

He also stated that the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, respectively, would also not “smell” the presidential seat.

According to him, the opposition supporters are underestimating the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The self-styled activist stated this while reacting to reports that Obi’s recent visit to Atiku could be connected to a merger of the opposition parties.

VeryDarkMan maintained that even with a merger, it would be difficult for the opposition to unseat the incumbent president in 2027.

He said, “I’m sick of seeing the news of Peter Obi and Atiku planning a merger ahead of 2027 in bid to take over the presidency.

“But the truth is, Peter Obi, Atiku or Kwankwaso cannot smell the presidential seat in 2027.

“The problem with the opposition is that they underestimate the incumbent president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“With time, you will realise that Tinubu is actually the greatest politician of all time. I hate to say it but it’s fact.

“The man is smart, intelligent and desperate. He knows how to get what he wants. Don’t joke with him. He will remain in office till 2032.

“The opposition should give up on the merger plans. Peter Obi 2027 is not possible.”
