Police Arrest Florida-Based Doctor As Mastermind Of Haiti President’s Murder

HAITI: A doctor based in the Florida, US have been arrested by Police in Haiti for aledgedly been the mastermind in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.

The doctor was said to have flown into the country on a private jet and worked with the assassins who assassinated President Jovenel Mosse last week.

On Sunday, Haiti Police Chief; Leon Charles identified the man as Christian Emmanuel Sanon, who had been in contact with a firm providing security to politicians and recruiting suspects. He said the suspect had come to Haiti with the killers in early June.

His arrest was announced after hundreds of Haitians sought solace in prayer at church services on Sunday morning as the political power struggle threatened to further destabilize their fragile country. Mr Charles said the men’s initial mission was to protect Mr Sanon, but they later found a new one: arresting the president. He added that “the operation began from there,” and an additional 22 suspects joined the group. He said Haitian citizens had been contacted.

He said the alleged killer was protecting Mr. Sanon as Haiti’s future president.

Police officers found several items from his home, including a cap bearing the US Drug Enforcement Administration logo, 20 cans of bullets, gun parts, four automobile license plates from the Dominican Republic, two cars and correspondence with unidentified people.

Last week, President Moses was shot dead, while his wife, who was seriously injured in an attack, was taken to Miami and hospitalized.

The police chief said a total of 26 Colombians were suspected in the assassination of the president and 18 of them were arrested, along with three Haitians. He said five suspects are still on the run and at least three have been killed.

“They are dangerous individuals. I am talking to commandos, special commandos,” Mr. Charles said, explaining that police are working with high-ranking Colombian officials to identify details of the alleged conspiracy, in which the suspects left Colombia and paid for their tickets.

The accused lived in Broward County, Florida and Hillsborough County on the Gulf Coast. According to records, he has also lived in Kansas City, Missouri and filed for bankruptcy in 2013. Mr Sanon identified himself as a doctor in a video on YouTube titled “Leadership for Haiti”.

Haiti, a country of more than 11 million people, currently has only 10 elected officials after failing to hold parliamentary elections, leading Mo hisse to rule for more than a year until his death. Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph is currently leading Haiti with the help of the police and military, but he faces increasing challenges to his power.
