Resident Women In Kubwa, Construct Road As Government Refuses To Attend To It

Some group of female locals in Kubwa are rebuilding the dilapidated entrance road to their hamlet, Byazhin Across.

Located amid Kubwa, a suburb of the nation’s capital, the neighborhood is home to a diverse population.

For some years, the road going to Byazhin Across has been in poor condition, resulting in numerous accidents.

Mrs. Khadijat Kosoko, one of the members of the group, stated that the initiative began in the year 2019.

“Seeing how pregnant women were having miscarriages, students falling from bikes, we came up with an idea to help the community fix the deplorable road”, she said when speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“We started with filling potholes, a man saw us and offered to help with financial assistance. We decided to fix the whole road, using cement, stones, and sand.”

Kosoko revealed that they were at the roadside, asking for assistance from cars and onlookers.

She went on to say that they were surprised by the amount of money they received and that they immediately got to work.

Mrs. Bola Shitta, also known as Mama Kpomo, is the group’s leader. In her statement, Mama Kpomo stated that they had faced numerous obstacles ranging from being duped to having people refuse to give and others ridiculing them.

Shitta expressed her appreciation for the hardworking women who volunteered for the project.

“By the grace of God, if the government does not intervene or assist us, we will keep on doing the good work. We will go beyond this place and take the project further”, she stated.

Separately, a citizen named Mr. Kunle claimed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Bwari Area Council had “abandoned” Byazhin Across in an interview with the Daily Post on Sunday.

He said, “It is annoying and unfortunate. If this place was one of the big men’s places, will they leave the roads like this?”

As of the time of publication, Engr. Felix Nwankwo, FCTA Director, Satellite Towns Development Department, did not answer or respond to phone calls.
