Russia has delivered a stark caution regarding US threats to target Iran’s nuclear sites, stating that such an assault might lead to ‘catastrophic’ outcomes for the region.
The Kremlin’s apprehensions surfaced after Donald Trump promised to attack Iran with bombs unless it consents to a fresh nuclear agreement with Washington.
In a fiery exchange with NBC News, Trump cautioned that Tehran would encounter military force and harsh economic penalties if it declined to engage in talks.
‘If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing,’ Trump proclaimed. ‘It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.’
Moscow, which has been deepening its relationship with Iran, denounced Trump’s menacing statements.
‘Threats are indeed being heard, ultimatums are also being heard,’ Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov expressed to the Russian publication ‘International Affairs’ in an interview, portions of which were released on Tuesday.
‘We consider such methods inappropriate, we condemn them, we consider them a way for (the US) to impose its own will on the Iranian side.’
The admonition highlights escalating friction between Russia and the US, despite the Kremlin’s cautious stance toward Trump, with whom President Vladimir Putin has aimed to restore ties.
Ryabkov emphasized that Moscow perceives Trump’s language as a perilous intensification.
‘The consequences of this, especially if the strikes are on nuclear infrastructure, could be catastrophic for the entire region,’ he warned.
Trump’s uncompromising position comes after his exit from a 2015 pact between Iran and global powers that imposed tight restrictions on Tehran’s controversial nuclear efforts in return for sanctions relief—a decision that heightened tensions and sparked worries of confrontation.
Although Iran maintains that its nuclear initiative is for peaceful objectives and refutes claims it is pursuing an atomic weapon, Washington remains skeptical.
Ryabkov noted that Trump’s latest remarks merely served to ‘complicate the situation’ concerning Iran.
‘The consequences of this, especially if the strikes are on nuclear infrastructure, could be catastrophic for the entire region,’ Ryabkov stated.
‘While there is still time and the ‘train has not left’, we need to redouble our efforts to try to reach an agreement on a reasonable basis. Russia is ready to offer its good services to Washington, Tehran and everyone who is interested in this,’ he said.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
