Tems: I Was Sitting In Prison In Uganda, This Very Day Last Year

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems has reflected on her success journey since her release from prison in Uganda last year.

The singer took to Twitter on Monday, December 13 to show her appreciation to God for making her have the “last and final laugh.”

“This very day Last Year, I was sitting in prison in Uganda bonding with women and kids.

“I almost can’t believe the things I’ve seen so far.
All I can say is God is too awesome and He will always have the last and final laugh✨” she tweeted.

It was recalled  that Tems was arrested by the Ugandan police alongside Omah Lay in December 2020, after the dou performance at The Big Brunch, a concert that was held at Speke Resort, Wavamunno Rd, Kampala.

However, due to public outcry, the Nigerian government secured their release and they arrived Nigeria on December 16, 2020.

Since her 2020 ordeal in Uganda prison after being detained for violating COVID-19 guidelines in the country, Tems has earned two US top 40 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, with her collaboration with Drake on the song “Fountains” from his album Certified Lover Boy, and the Wizkid single “Essence”; the latter of which reached the top ten following a remix with Justin Bieber, and earned her a Grammy Award nomination.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
