Thursday Of Week 22 In Ordinary Time

1 Corinthians 3:18-23
Psalm 23(24):1-6
Luke 5:1-11

CAN YOU LEAVE EVERYTHING TO FOLLOW CHRIST?

Today’s gospel passage recounts Jesus’ preaching by the sea of Galilee, where he boards Simon’s boat and urges the fishermen to row out a short distance due to the encroaching crowd. Following the sermon, Jesus instructs Peter to lower his nets into the water. Despite initial hesitation, Peter complies, resulting in a remarkably large catch necessitating the assistance of another boat.

The pivotal message in this Gospel passage lies in the unwavering response of Peter and his companions to Jesus’ call – “they left everything and followed Him.” This prompts reflection on the completeness and totality of our response to Jesus’ call, juxtaposed with that of Simon Peter. It provokes contemplation on the depth of our commitment.

The profound desire of God to establish a relationship with His creation led to the sending of His only son to reside among us. Paul underscores the futility of boasting or placing trust in humans, emphasizing the indwelling of Christ within us, thus aligning us with God.

May we be effective bearers of God’s truth and salvation within our familial, social, and professional circles. Amen.
