Wait On The Promises Of God

Genesis 18:1-15
Matthew 8:5-17

In today’s first reading, God assures Sarah of a son even though she has come of age. Her laughter as regards the promise of a son was on the fact that she was afraid as to whether this promise will come to pass. I think most of us need to understand that we need to wait on the Lord for remembers His promises and sooner than later they will come to fulfillment.

Today’s Gospel narrative about the centurion offers us an entirely different perspective. We might also think of the Syro-Phenician woman in Matthew 15, or the Samaritan leper in Luke 17, all of them Gentiles or non-believers. Jesus commends their level of trust, saying he hasn’t seen this kind of faith even among his own people, the “faithful” Israelites. Our God is always stretching the poles of the tent, including more, and that might be one response to the gloomy statistics we read about today as many drift from Sunday worship and Catholic Christian allegiance.

We are called by God to achieve great things more than we think we do. It is a gift and a privilege to be a part of this tree of faith of Abraham that continues to produce good fruit!

Happy New Month!

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
