Woman Who Hit Herself With Hammer & Accused Five Men Of Rape Is Sentenced To Eight And A Half Years

The woman who used a hammer to hurt herself so she could claim that five men had sexually assaulted her, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison.

Eleanor Williams, 22, of Barrow, United Kingdom, was sentenced on March 14, 2023.

She was previously convicted guilty on eight counts of acting with the intent to obstruct justice after accusing five men of rape, which resulted in the imprisonment of one and the ruin of the lives of the others.

She continued by claiming that she had been abused in Ibiza and had been forced to attend sex parties across the north of England after being groomed since she was 12 years old. She said that while on vacation with her sister in Amsterdam, she had been bought and sold as a slave.

Tommy Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League, visited the town to “examine” the claims after it provoked protests in her community.

Williams originally falsely claimed to have been raped at a party in Barrow when she was 16 years old. She then alleged that the same man had raped her twice, once at her apartment and once after a night out at the Manhattan nightclub where she worked.

When she posted pictures of herself on Facebook covered in stunning bruises, sporting a black eye, and holding a finger that had been half severed, her claims went global during lockdown in May 2020. She claimed that “evil yet brilliant” Asian males, especially Pakistani businessmen, had forced her to attend “sex parties” and beat her.

The claims quickly traveled outside of Cumbria and gave rise to the global campaign for justice for Ellie, which now has more than 100,000 Facebook followers. It inspired rallies across the UK amid claims of a police cover-up and has its own line of goods with a purple elephant.

In a letter to judges, Williams apologised for “some mistakes” and said she was “young and confused”.

She wrote: “I know I have made some mistakes and I am sorry but I was young and confused. When I wrote the Facebook post I never intended causing issues in the community. I am devastated at the consequences it has had on Barrow. I was discharged from hospital that morning and was in a bad way….I wasn’t thinking straight.

“Me and my family publicly stated we didn’t want Tommy Robinson in the town as I do not agree with his views and know the damage he has caused.”

Before she was sentenced, a few of the men who had been wrongfully accused spoke out in comments about the effect the accusations had on their lives.

In response to bogus accusations, Jordan Trengove, who was detained three times, said: “We had the word ‘rapist’ sprayed on the house and the window smashed. My mum had to leave the house because she didn’t feel safe.

My time on remand will haunt me for the rest of my life. I was put on a sex offenders’ wing and was forced to share a cell with a man who told me why he was in prison. I felt sick.”

Mohammed Ramzan said: “Two weeks after my arrest I attempted to take my own life. I still have the scars to this day. I was constantly harassed which caused unnecessary heartache.

“Myself and my family still fear for our safety. At a time I had to move away from my family home out of fear for my personal safety.”

Oliver Gardner said: “When I was told she was accusing me of rape I felt sick. I had to tell my mum and I started questioning myself even though I knew I’d done nothing wrong.

“My mental health got really bad and I tried to take my life. I was taken to hospital for emergency treatment.”

She stated that the bruises she had were caused by the gang after they had brought her to a property in the town and sexually assaulted her; the injuries were discovered by police on May 19, 2020, close to her home on Walney Island.

Williams was found with blood on a hammer, which the prosecution alleged she used to inflict her own wounds.

The encounter, according to the prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford KC, was the “finale” to several untrue claims made by Williams.

Additionally, the court was informed that a Snapchat account Williams claimed belonged to an Asian trafficker named Shaggy Wood was actually owned by a guy by the name of Liam Wood.

The prosecutor gave the jury the following concluding remarks: “The defendant goes online to her social media contacts and effectively finds random names on the internet she presents as being victims of trafficking or perpetrators.”

It was said Williams sent some texts to herself, making them appear as if they were from traffickers or fellow victims. She is accused of manipulating genuine people in other instances to send texts that she later claimed came from her abusers.

The prosecution alleged that some of the individuals she brought claims against were real, while others were fictitious.
