I’ll Continue To Act As Senator As My Suspension Is Illegal – Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has labeled her suspension from the Senate as unfair, pledging to persist in serving her constituents regardless of the ruling.

The Senate barred Akpoti-Uduaghan for “gross misconduct” after a fiery dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio regarding seating arrangements on February 20. The situation intensified when Akpoti-Uduaghan subsequently accused Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim he refuted.

Her appeal on the issue was rejected by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions due to technicalities.

In a post on social media, Akpoti-Uduaghan denounced her suspension, describing it as an assault on justice and equity.

“Against the culture of silence, intimidation and victim-shaming; my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness and equity,” she declared.

She reiterated her dedication to her position, emphasizing that the suspension does not undermine her authority as an elected representative.

“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027… and beyond,” she further noted.

Despite the suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan stands resolute, insisting that she will not be muted.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
