14-Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide Over Pregnancy In Benue

A 14-year-old expectant Secondary School Student, known as Nicknes Ayo, has taken her own life at Egba in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday, March 29, 2025, following her mother’s insistence that she reveal the identity of the man who caused her pregnancy.

A neighbor, who introduced herself as Mama Enyi, informed Punch that the girl, a student in Otukpo, came back home on Thursday exhibiting indications of being pregnant.

“Her mother, who observed some hints of pregnancy, asked her whether she was expecting or not. It was after significant urging and a warning about being taken to a local clinic that the girl fled,” the source explained.

“She was later discovered in her room, having ingested a substance believed to be bottle Gammalin, and she was hurriedly transported to the village clinic referred to as ‘Ghana Clinic’ in the community.

The clinic’s medical director, Dr. Oyaje Sule, widely recognized as Dr. Ghana, stated that the girl was brought to his facility on Saturday morning.

“It is true, they brought a 14-year-old girl to my clinic this morning and was suspected to have taken Gammalin when her mother pressured her to disclose who was responsible for her pregnancy,” he confirmed.

“But when the condition began deteriorating beyond control, I directed her to the hospital in Obagaji, the administrative center of Agatu local government, but sadly, she passed away en route.

“As I am speaking to you, the girl whose age was estimated to be between 13 and 14 years old has been laid to rest. Regrettably, she had lost her father several years earlier.”

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
