Man Arrested For Selling Adulterated Cooking Oil In Abuja

Vigilantes operating in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have apprehended a man accused of tampering with cooking oil and selling it to the public.

The commander of the VGN in the area, John Samuel, stated that the suspect, identified as Peter Amos, was detained on Friday night at the Tipper garage area in Kabusa district, where he resides and also conducted the illicit activity.

In a confessional statement captured in a video obtained by Daily Trust on Sunday, April 20, the suspect was seen explaining how he packaged the counterfeit cooking oil in five-litre gallons that had been filled with water, to which he added a small amount of cooking oil.

“I sell one gallon at the rate of N10,000 or less than that amount in some instances,” the suspect said.

He also revealed that he previously trained as a mechanic before abandoning the trade and turning to the fraudulent enterprise.

He pledged to identify another individual who collaborated with him in the deceptive act.

The vigilante commander noted that the suspect’s arrest followed complaints from some residents, who accused him of defrauding them through the illicit scheme.

The commander confirmed that the suspect had been handed over to the police in the area for further investigation.

The police in the area acknowledged the arrest but declined to provide additional comments.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
