Annie Macaulay Introduces Self As Single Amid Marriage Split Drama

During the 17th edition of the Headies Awards, which took place in Lagos on Sunday night, Annie Macaulay, the estranged wife of Nigerian music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, made her separation from the musician public.

In a subtle yet clear affirmation of her new status, Macaulay used her maiden name when she took the stage with Farooq Oreagba, the highly regarded “King of Steeze” from the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.

Mother of two Macaulay was asked to give the Best Afrobeats Singer award. She appeared ready to use “Idibia” while presenting herself, but she suddenly changed her mind and used her maiden name instead, a decision that generated a lot of conversation on social media.

“My name is Annie Idi—oh sorry, Annie Macaulay. Hey, single ladies!” she declared to loud cheers from the audience at the Landmark Event Centre, Lekki.

Her announcement came as the Headies Awards, themed ‘Back to Base,’ returned to Nigeria after a two-year stint in the United States. The ceremony was hosted by Nollywood actress and media personality, Nancy Isime.

Her bold statement follows months of speculation after 2Baba announced their separation in January 2025.

Do what makes you happy, what brings joy and pleasure and what you truly can do, even if that thing doesn’t make you rich or famous.

Live with Purpose, Love with Passion. Remember to be happy
