Broda Shaggi Shares The Main Challenge Creatives Encounter

Actor and well-known skit creator Broda Shaggi has opened up on the challenges that creatives in the field encounter.

He claims that Nigerian creatives have trouble finding finance. “The talent and ideas are there,” Broda Shaggi said.

Shaggi emphasized in an Instagram post the value of intellectual property (IP) in assisting artists in obtaining funding. He exhorted content producers to start seeing their labor as a valued resource that may provide income.

He said, “One of the biggest hurdles we face in the creative world isn’t talent or ideas, it’s access to funding. So here’s the real question. How can we, as creatives, unlock financing by leveraging our Intellectual Property (IP) as collateral?

“I recently had the privilege of attending a powerful event hosted by the CREAM platform where thought leaders dove deep into this exact topic. The key takeaway? Content is the new crude. Just like oil built empires, your creative output has massive untapped value. So if you’re a creative, keep creating. Your IP isn’t just art, it’s an asset. One that can open doors to millions, even billions”.

I personally feel that they need to combine their creativity with strategic planning and financial literacy, content creators can better navigate economic challenges and sustain their work over the long term.

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
