‘Sleeping Prince’ Of Saudi Arabia Dies After 20 years In Coma

The world is mourning the loss of Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud, affectionately known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” who tragically passed away at the young age of 36, after spending over two decades in a coma.

The prince’s life changed irrevocably at just 15 years old when a devastating car accident in London in 2005 left him suffering from a brain hemorrhage and internal bleeding. For all these years, he remained on life support, never fully regaining consciousness.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, shared the heartbreaking news with profound sorrow in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. He quoted a verse from the Quran, expressing: “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

Prince Al-Waleed died at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he had received unwavering care from his family since the tragic accident. Despite the overwhelming circumstances, Prince Khaled held onto hope for his son’s recovery, resisting calls to remove life support, showcasing the profound love and dedication he had for his son.

Over the years, poignant photographs have surfaced, capturing Prince Al-Waleed in his hospital bed, often surrounded by loved ones who continued to support him through every moment. His story resonated deeply within the Arab community, symbolizing hope and the power of faith.

The news of his passing has evoked a wave of emotions online, with the hashtag #SleepingPrince trending across social media as people pay tribute to a life marked by unimaginable challenges.

In a testament to his memory, a funeral will be held over three days (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday), allowing family and friends to honor and celebrate his life. May his soul rest in peace,Amen.
