Azuka Okwuosa Clinches APC Ticket for Anambra South Senatorial By-Election

Azuka Okwuosa, a former Anambra State governorship aspirant, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the August 16 senatorial by-election in Anambra South.

Okwuosa, who is also the Secretary-General of the South-East Development Initiative, defeated his closest rival, Obinna Uzor, in a primary election conducted by a seven-member committee from the APC National Secretariat.

Election Results:

  • Azuka Okwuosa: 470 votes
  • Obinna Uzor: 57 votes
  • Invalid Votes: 22

The primary election, which was held at Anaedo Hall in Nnewi, was declared peaceful and transparent by Chief Henry Ikoh, chairman of the election committee. Okwuosa expressed gratitude for the party’s confidence in him, paying tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, whose vacant seat sparked the by-election.

Okwuosa’s Background:

  • Born: November 3, 1959, in Jos, Plateau State
  • Previous Roles:
    • Nnewi North Local Government Council Chairman
    • Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Transport
    • Secretary-General, South-East Development Initiative (2002-2010)
  • Political Career: Contested governorship under APGA, had a stint with PDP (1999-2003), and joined APC, citing the party’s openness to his vision for Anambra State

With Okwuosa’s victory, he is poised to represent APC in the upcoming senatorial by-election, aiming to continue the legacy of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
