19-Year-Old Man Arrested For Kill!ng Two Mourners

A 19-year-old man has been detained in Zimbabwe after fatally attacking two mourners and wounding two others during an all-night funeral ceremony.

Liberty Sibanda was arrested following a violent episode on August 3rd at a prayer gathering in Mashavele Village, Chikombedzi. The attendees had come together to pay respects to a deceased family member when Sibanda abruptly attacked with a sharp weapon.

Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri of the Criminal Investigations Department stated, “The victims were seated near a fire when the suspect suddenly emerged from his room and assaulted one individual with a sharp weapon. When others attempted to intervene, they too became targets of the violent assault.”

Emergency services transported the victims to medical facilities, where one mourner succumbed to neck injuries. Two others suffered back wounds and were treated and discharged.

Sibanda appeared in Chikombedzi Magistrates Court on August 8th, where he was ordered to remain in custody until his next court appearance on August 21st. He faces charges including murder and attempted murder.

This incident comes after another violent attack at a funeral service in nearby Mukuwo Village, where an unidentified assailant killed a woman and injured three others. Police are still searching for the suspect and have urged the public to provide any information that could assist.

Law enforcement officials have called for peaceful conflict resolution in light of these tragedies. Detective Inspector Muteweri emphasized, “We strongly discourage resorting to physical violence as a means to settle disputes.”

Investigations into both attacks continue as the community grapples with the recent outbreak of violence.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
