Dating, Boundaries, and the Beauty of Waiting (B)

Today’s world constantly tells teenage girls they’re missing out if they’re not in a romantic relationship. Movies, music, social media—even friends—can make it feel like dating equals maturity or her worth. But as mothers, we hold a powerful responsibility: to guide them with truth and purpose.

Dating requires emotional maturity, wisdom, and sacrifice—qualities that develop with time. Your daughter is still discovering who she is and who God has called her to be. Let her know she’s not expected to carry the emotional weight of a romantic relationship right now. Most teen relationships are fueled more by pressure to fit in than by genuine connection.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” This is not her season for romance—it’s her season for growth. Let her know she isn’t falling behind by waiting. In fact, she’s choosing a rare path—one marked by strength, purpose, and self-respect.

Teach her to wait with joy, not fear. Guarding her heart, body, and soul doesn’t mean she’s losing out—it means she’s gaining clarity. Clarity about her values, her dreams, her career path, and her relationship with God. She’s freeing herself from the emotional burdens that often come with premature relationships.

Help her see that dating isn’t about having someone to post or text about. Real love is mature, purposeful, and rooted in respect. And until she’s truly ready, she has no reason to rush.

Let her also know that unhealthy dating often involves immoral sexual pressures, which harm not just the body, but the mind and soul. But choosing purity brings peace, clarity, and joy.

Reassure her: the right time will come. And when it does, she’ll walk in with confidence—not confusion. She’s not behind—she’s becoming.

What is one way you’re helping your daughter protect her heart in today’s world?

Bye!
