Police Arrest Army Personnel For Faking Own Kidnap And Demanding N20 Million Ransom

The Anambra State Police Command has detained a serving soldier for allegedly orchestrating his own kidnapping to extort N20 million from his family.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Samuel Ekezie, a member of the 302 Artillery Regiment of the Nigerian Army, Onitsha, was captured on the evening of September 15, 2025, and placed in custody.

In a statement issued, the command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, stated that the suspect had reportedly faked his abduction to secure funds from his relatives.

Tochukwu noted that initial investigations showed that on August 15, 2025, Ekezie sent a text message to his family claiming he had been abducted and demanding a ransom of N20 million for his release.

SP Tochukwu further revealed that, utilizing technology-driven intelligence, operatives located and apprehended the suspect at his hideout in Rivers State.

He emphasized that the command is committed to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the case, affirming its dedication to ensuring justice is served.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
