Federal Government Secures N250 Billion for Kaduna and Kano Light Rail Projects

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the successful acquisition of N250 billion in funding for the development of modern light rail systems in Kaduna and Kano States. The breakdown of the funding allocation is as follows:

  • Kano State: N150 billion
  • Kaduna State: N100 billion

Project Objectives:

The light rail projects aim to:

  • Improve Urban Mobility: Enhance transportation infrastructure in Kaduna and Kano cities
  • Stimulate Economic Activity: Drive economic growth and development in northern Nigeria
  • Create Jobs: Generate employment opportunities for citizens
  • Promote Balanced Regional Development: Foster equitable development across the country

Implementation:

The projects will be facilitated through the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and supported by strategic public-private partnerships. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on revitalizing Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape through strategic investments in transportation and infrastructure.

The Kaduna and Kano light rail projects are expected to have a significant impact on the region, including:

  • Job Creation: Over 250,000 jobs with average earnings of N150,000 per month
  • Private Investment: Attract N70 billion in private investment
  • Local Economic Growth: Stimulate local building material hubs and economic activity
