US Government Permanently Revokes Wole Soyinka’s Visa

The United States administration has permanently canceled the visa belonging to the Nobel Prize-winning scholar, Professor Wole Soyinka.

According to Leadership, Soyinka revealed this information during a press gathering conducted in Lagos on Tuesday, October 28. He mentioned that he got the notification regarding the visa cancellation last Thursday, October 23, and that this situation appeared to resemble being targeted like a witch due to his opposition toward the approaches taken by United States President Donald Trump.

It is worth remembering that back in December 2016, the celebrated writer, versifier, and dramatist ripped up his Green Card following Trump’s victory in the election for his initial term as president.

At the press gathering organized at the Freedom Park in Lagos, centered around the topic ‘Unending Saga: Idi Amin In Whiteface!’, Soyinka, currently living in Nigeria, recited the correspondence originating from the US Consulate located in Lagos.

The correspondence states;

‎”Dear Mr Soyinka, this letter serves as official notification of the United States Consulate that the non-immigrant visa listed below has been revoked in pursuant to the Department of State Regulations 22 CFR 41.122 and is no longer valid for application into the United States. Additional ‎information became available after the below visa was issued. This revocation refers only to the visa listed below.

‎Name of visa holder: SOYINKA, WOLE

 Date and place of birth: 13-JUL-1934, NIGERIA

‎ Visa classification(symbol): B1/B2

‎ Date and place of visa issuance: 02-APR-2024, Lagos,” the letter read partly

He indicated that he harbored no resentment stemming from this occurrence and that he intends to keep inviting Americans to visit his residence in Abeokuta, situated in Ogun State, since he maintains no grievances against the citizens or the country itself.

Furthermore, he remarked that, in his capacity as a citizen of the world, he plans to persist in voicing criticisms regarding racism and whatever he perceives as problematic within the agendas pursued by various administrations, encompassing that led by Donald Trump.
