The Vice Chancellor of Newgate University, Prof. Sadiq Yussuf, has disclosed that the university dismissed two lecturers and expelled five students in a move aimed at sanitising and strengthening the institution’s academic system.
The VC made this known during a media briefing, where he further disclosed that the institution had adopted stringent measures against examination malpractices, which he said had resulted in disciplinary actions.
The University has taken a strong stance against examination malpractices, sacking lecturers and rusting students involved in the scandal. This move demonstrates the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and maintaining high standards of education.
Similar actions have been taken by other Nigerian universities, including:
- Plateau State University: Rusticated 43 students for examination malpractices and other fraudulent activities.
- Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology: Expelled 34 students and rusticated 13 others for exam malpractices.
- Umaru Musa Yar’adua University: Expelled 57 students for various forms of examination malpractices.
- Ambrose Alli University: Rusticated 34 medical students for exam malpractices.
- Federal University Dutsinma: Sacked three lecturers and nine students for involvement in examination malpractices.
The Nigerian government has also taken steps to curb exam malpractices, including proposing the establishment of an Examination Malpractice Tribunal. The Examination Malpractice Act 33 of 1999 stipulates punishment ranging from fines to imprisonment for those found guilty of exam malpractices.
