Aba Poised for Global Trade Spotlight as WTO to Open Sub-Office

Aba, Abia State, is poised to become an international commercial hub with the establishment of a World Trade Organization (WTO) sub-office, the first in Africa and the second globally. Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala described this move as a strategic investment in Africa’s industrial potential, highlighting Aba’s resilience and innovation.

The WTO sub-office is expected to attract global investors, manufacturers, and trade partners, transforming Aba into a recognized international city. Abia State Governor Alex Otti had previously expressed optimism about turning Aba into a billion-dollar fashion hub, citing the city’s potential in fashion, agriculture, sports, tourism, and other sectors.

This development is viewed as a significant milestone for Nigeria, solidifying its position in the global trade landscape. Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership has been instrumental in promoting international trade and economic growth, and her reappointment as WTO Director-General for a second term underscores her exceptional leadership.

As Aba prepares to step onto the world stage, local observers anticipate a surge in economic activity, job creation, and infrastructure development. This historic move is poised to unlock new opportunities for Nigeria and cement its status as a key player in global trade.
