Rivers Lawmakers Push Forward with Impeachment of Governor Fubara and Deputy

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are standing firm on their decision to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, citing gross misconduct and constitutional breaches. The lawmakers, who are predominantly of Ijaw extraction, have denied any ethnic motivation behind the impeachment process, emphasizing that their actions are in line with the constitution.

The development comes after four lawmakers, who had earlier called for a halt to the impeachment proceedings, have now reversed their stance and are supporting the process. The lawmakers have accused Governor Fubara of attempting to intimidate them using the EFCC.

The impeachment process, which began on January 8, has been marked by controversy, with some arguing that it’s a politically motivated move. However, the lawmakers have maintained that they’re acting in the best interest of the state.
