Breaking Barriers: Remi Tinubu Launches ‘Flow with Confidence’ Menstrual Hygiene Initiative

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the ‘Flow with Confidence’ initiative, a landmark program aimed at improving menstrual health and hygiene among schoolgirls across the country. The initiative seeks to empower schoolgirls through education on menstrual hygiene, promoting confidence and dignity.

The program involves distributing 370,000 sanitary pad packs across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with each state receiving 10,000 packs. This intervention is designed to support girls in rural communities who struggle to access sanitary products, ensuring they don’t miss school due to menstruation.

Speaking at the launch, Senator Tinubu emphasized that menstruation is natural and shouldn’t hinder education, confidence, or self-worth. She urged stakeholders to support the initiative, ensuring its success and reach.

The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), focusing on education and empowerment. Senator Tinubu noted that many girls silently struggle during their menstrual cycle, affecting their school attendance and self-esteem.

The RHI has invested ₦2.55 billion in procuring customized disposable sanitary pads from a local manufacturer, supporting indigenous industry and job creation.

The program has been launched in several states, including Abia, Zamfara, Gombe, and Oyo, with plans for nationwide rollout. Senator Tinubu appealed to traditional, religious, and community leaders to monitor distribution and encourage beneficiaries to stay in school.

The ‘Flow with Confidence’ initiative aims to break the stigma surrounding menstruation, promoting a culture of openness and support for girls’ education and well-being.
