Abia State Launches Electric Bus Service with Subsidized Fares

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced the launch of an electric bus service with subsidized fares, marking a significant milestone in the state’s transportation sector. The buses will operate in major cities, including Umuahia, Aba, and Ohafia, with fares starting from ₦800 for Umuahia to Aba trips and ₦1,000 for Umuahia to Ohafia trips.

The Abia Green Shuttle Service aims to provide modern, environmentally friendly, and efficient public transportation. The electric buses are equipped with advanced features such as air conditioning, surveillance cameras, and onboard charging ports. The service will operate a fully digital payment platform, with commuters required to pay using their ATM cards.

Governor Otti emphasized that the initiative is part of the state’s efforts to promote sustainable development, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the quality of life for residents. The project is expected to create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and enhance road safety.

The Abia State Government has invested in modern bus terminals and solar-powered charging stations to support the electric bus service. The project is a significant step towards achieving the state’s vision of becoming a hub for innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development.

The launch of the electric bus service has been welcomed by residents, who see it as a game-changer for public transportation in Abia State. The service is expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, minimize air pollution, and promote healthier urban living.

The Abia Green Shuttle Service is part of Governor Otti’s broader vision for a modern and sustainable public transportation system. The initiative aligns with global climate goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda.
