Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has challenged individuals working for President Bola Tinubu to present him with ways to stimulate economic growth, emphasizing that the current hardship is too much for Nigerians. Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, made this appeal while addressing journalists, urging the president to convene an emergency meeting with his economic team to find solutions.
Kalu attributed the current economic challenges to the removal of fuel subsidies but acknowledged that it was a necessary step. He emphasized the need for the government to come up with economic plans that would make life more bearable for the poor masses. The senator also commended President Tinubu for his efforts in stabilizing the economy, citing achievements such as a 3.84% GDP growth in Q4 2024 and increased foreign exchange reserves.
However, Kalu stressed that more needs to be done to address the suffering of Nigerians. He suggested that local governments should receive their allocations directly and advocated for a minimum wage increase to N90,000, considering the current inflation rate.
