Four of the five men accused of the June 5, 2022 attack at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, were found guilty and given the death penalty by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite mandated that Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, and Abdulhaleem Idris be hanged, while Momoh Otuho Abubakar, the fifth, was released and cleared of all charges.
The Department of State Services (DSS) prosecuted the four on nine counts, all of which were found guilty by Justice Nwite.
This verdict serves as a rightful punishment for their actions. I sincerely wish that others will learn from this case and understand the consequences of such heinous acts, hoping it will deter similar incidents in the future.
