Joseph Cyril, a 30-year-old Italian businessman, was arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu for attempting to smuggle 98 wraps of cocaine.
He was detained while preparing to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight (ET930) headed to Italy, with layovers in Addis Ababa and France. The NDLEA agents took him into custody on August 2, 2026, as part of a series of drug seizures and arrests recorded during the first week of August.
Following his arrest, Cyril was placed under excretion observation in the airport’s departure hall, where he later expelled 1.510 kilograms of cocaine in 98 wraps.
We must stand firm in saying no to drug smuggling and all forms of illegal drug trade. Engaging in such activities not only puts individuals at immense personal risk but also endangers the safety and well-being of the entire nation. Nigerians should prioritize integrity, honesty, and lawful means of earning a livelihood, recognizing that no amount of money is worth sacrificing their lives and futures. Let us commit to building a society where drug abuse and trafficking are rejected, and where the pursuit of genuine success and progress is celebrated responsibly and legally.
