WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Fall Short With 1-0 Loss To Cameroon

Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Cameroon has eliminated them from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nation, WAFCON.

On Sunday nite, the two rivals from West Africa faced off in a quarterfinal match.

Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen’s spectacular free kick in the 19th minute sealed the victory.

Despite their best efforts, the Super Falcons were unable to find the back of the net and force extra time.

As a result, Justine Madugu’s team will not be able to defend the title they won at the previous WAFCON against Morocco.

With a spot in the Inter-Confederation playoff tournament up for grabs, Nigeria will now play South Africa on Thursday in Casablanca.

This leaves us questioning the decisions made during the match, particularly why the coach did not allow O Oshola to start from the beginning. She is a talented and impactful player, so bringing her on only at a late stage raises questions about the strategy and reasoning behind the substitution. The coach has some answers to provide regarding these choices, as fans and analysts alike are eager to understand the rationale behind not utilizing one of our best players from the outset.
