NO UNHOLY ALLIANCE: Abia APC Rules Out Deal With Ruling Party Ahead of 2027

The All Progressives Congress in Abia State has dismissed rumours of any alliance with the ruling party in the state, declaring that there is “no such unholy alliance and there never will be” ahead of the 2027 elections.

State APC Chairman, *Chijioke Chukwu*, made the declaration on Sunday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia to review the party’s activities.

Chukwu expressed concern over what he called deliberate misinformation being spread by some party members, including “very high-ranking members” whom he accused of working against the party.

*“They have made utterances that we feel and believe are inimical to the good and development of this party. Some of them have gone ahead in their private closets to spread rumours that our party’s governorship candidate is a placeholder,”* he said.

Addressing speculation of a pact between the APC and the state government, Chukwu said:
*_“Some have even said that the party has gone into an alliance or is holding an alliance with the ruling party in the state, that there is already an alliance between the ruling party in the state and the APC-led Federal Government.
If there is anybody that should know if there is an alliance, I am the state chairman. I have consulted stakeholders at the highest level, and I want to tell you and assure you that there is no such unholy alliance and there never will be.”__

The APC chairman accused the state government of imposing hardship on Abians and running the state like a “military regime”.

__“If we are going to go into an alliance, we will not go into an alliance with a party that is causing a lot of hardship for Abians, a party that has claimed billions of naira in the name of school renovation, a party that is carrying on its activities as if we are in a military regime, where a lecturer will be suspended for airing his views. Are we in tyranny? Are we in a military regime?
But we have a tyrant in Abia at the head of government, and if the party must go into an alliance, it is not going to be with such a tyrant,”__ he said.

Chukwu further alleged lack of accountability and due process in the state.
*“Contracts have been awarded without due process. Contracts have been over-inflated above what is being done even in a local state that is swampy. That is not a party we are going to have an alliance with.”*

Rather than an alliance with the ruling party, Chukwu said the APC would pursue a coalition focused on good governance.

__“We will go into a coalition that will give Abians what they deserve, and what Abians deserve is good government. A government that will be responsible to the people. A government that will pay its pensions.
A government that will give Abians an acceptable minimum wage. Not when a director in Abia State is earning less than N180,000. That is less than the salary of a Level Four officer in Imo State.”__

He also criticized what he described as “social media governance”, saying the reality on ground in Abia compared poorly with neighboring states.

__“Not a government that will want to deceive Abians into believing that they are working on social media, knowing what you have on the ground when compared to other neighbouring states is totally unacceptable.
That is not a party we will want to enslave ourselves with. We will not subject ourselves to such tyranny,”__ he added.

Chukwu, however, expressed confidence that the APC was strong enough to win all elections in the state in 2027.
