American Singer Goes Back To She/Her Pronouns After Demanding To Be Addressed As They/Them

More than a year after coming out as non-binary and requesting that people use they/them as her pronouns, Demi Lovato has finally gone back to using she/her pronouns.

During an appearance on Spout Podcast, the 29-year-old singer talked openly about re-adopting the pronouns.

Going back, she said, was a result of recently “feeling more feminine.”

She explained, “I’ve actually adopted the pronouns of she/her again with me. So for me, I’m such a fluid person that I don’t really and I don’t find that I am… I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced and my masculine and feminine energy so that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said, women and men, I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman.

“I didn’t feel like a man. I just felt like a human. And that’s what they/them is about. For me, it’s just about like feeling human at your core.

“Recently I’ve been feeling more feminine, and so I’ve adopted she/her again. But I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning, it’s just all about respect.”

Additionally, she changed the “they/them” in her Instagram bio to “they/them/she/her.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
