See South Africa’s “Dumbest” Wanted Criminal Who Went To The Police Station To Apply For Job

A man has been named “South Africa’s dumbest criminal” after going to the police station to inquire about his application to join the force.

The 40-year-old Thomas Ngcobo was wanted for stealing hardware items worth more than £1,000 that he was supposed to deliver to customers in 2015 and had been on the run for seven years.

He fled after rerouting the delivery of the hardware to another location without the owner’s knowledge or consent.

According to Selvy Mohlala, the spokesman for the Mpumalanga police, “The suspect’s dirty tricks were uncovered a week later after the manager decided to check invoices.

“It was realised that two invoices were missing and other material had been delivered to wrong addresses.”

Ngcobo was placed on the police “wanted list” after the suspected theft was reported to the Bethal South African Police Service (SAPS), which has its headquarters in the South African province of Mpumalanga.

However, the police were left confused after
Mr Ngcobo entered the police station through the front door seven years later to inquire as to why his job application had been delayed.

The spokesman said, “The suspect was unexpectedly nabbed on Monday, August 15, 2022, after he visited the Bethal SAPS to make enquiries about his application for a police recruitment drive.”

The Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, celebrated the criminal’s arrest and cautioned wanted criminals on the run that they could not escape the law.

“We are working tirelessly day and night, sticking to our mandate of creating a safe environment for all citizens. We cannot achieve that stage while other suspects are still roaming the streets and terrorising communities,” she said.

“It is just a matter of time before we bring them to justice.”

According to local media, Ngcobo has been arrested since August 16.

He is now known as the country’s most stupid criminal.
