Ohanaeze Ndigbo Speaks After Court Orders The Forfeiture Of Senator Ekweremadu’s 40 Land Properties In His Absence

Apex Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has criticized the Federal High Court’s decision by Justice Inyang Ekwo, ordering that Senator Ike Ekweremadu temporarily forfeit 40 alleged properties of his, calling the action “hasty”

AgnesIsika Blog had reported on Friday, that the Federal Court in Abuja issued the order even while the former Deputy Senate President is still detained in the United Kingdom on suspicion of allegedly organ harvesting.

The apex Igbo socio-political group claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, filed a hasty ex parte motion against the lawmaker, who is currently having difficulties in the United Kingdom.

The judgment, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, fails to uphold moral principles and the principles of natural justice.

In a statement signed by Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, its National Publicity Secretary, the organisation said, “We maintain that Sen. Ike Ekweremadu should be given the opportunity to defend himself on his properties; and if found wanting should surely face the consequences.”

The group went on to say that while it was aware that there were numerous corruption-related cases pending in the anti-graft agency, the urgency and selective judgment in the case of the lawmaker from Enugu is not only odd but also predictable.

Therefore, it appealed to all upright Nigerian legal authorities to step in and stop the occurrence of totalitarianism.
